Did you know more than one in 100 of your customers are autistic? Would you like to find out how you can make their experiences better?
Many autistic people and their families struggle to access essential community spaces, businesses and shops. Research by The National Autistic Society has shown that 50% of autistic people and families sometimes don’t go out because of concern about people’s reaction to their autism and 28% of autistic people say they’ve been asked to leave a public place because their autistic behaviours were misunderstood. As a result, many autistic people and their families avoid shops and services altogether to avoid these negative experiences. Research has shown that 79% of autistic people and 70% of families feel socially isolated.
Autism Jersey and the Jersey Adult Autism Service (JAAS) are working together to bring the NAS’s Autism Friendly Awards to Jersey. The aim is to improve access to the community for autistic people. We believe that autistic people have as much of a right to access shops, services and public places as everyone else.

The guest speaker will be David Slocombe, accreditation adviser to the National Autistic Society.
